ABOUT SEWING SUB-TRACK
** Update: Sewing classes will meet at Ms. Jaimi’s private residence where she runs The Frazzled Feather. This is just a short 5 minutes away from our flagship Littleton location.**
For the 2024-2025 School Year Program, we are partnering with an experienced sewing instructor and entrepreneur to bring beginner & intermediate sewers project-based sewing classes covering ages K-12th. Sewing, it isn’t as hard as you think! Students will ignite their creativity while learning how to operate a basic sewing machine.
Each class will be a specific project students can work on in class and take home to finish (if needed). They will also leave inspired to make more of what they created in class at home!
The modern technology behind sewing machines speed up productivity and allow all sewers, of every level from beginning to professional, to advance their creativity and skills. However, many people are often intimidated by machine sewing, choosing a sewing machine, materials needed, fabrics, etc. Jaimi is here for us to bring a bit of ease by answering some common questions of parents looking at the homesteading track / machine sewing this year.
Our learning experiences are ALL non-government funded.
Join our online Colorado Homeschool Sewing Families community as well!
Jaimi Kunse – Experienced Sewing Instructor
Hello all! My name is Mrs. Jaimi and I am so excited to teach you how to sew. I have been sewing by hand and on the machine since I was about 6 or 7 years old, guided by my grandma and her patience. From there, I excitedly taught myself everything else I know about sewing and quilting, gaining the ability to sew a wide array of projects. I started my own small business years ago, The Frazzled Feather, as a way to share my sewn treasures with others at small markets. I live with my husband Eric and our four children, who I homeschool. I love learning, teaching, sewing, crafting, photography, doing martial arts with my kids, and traveling. I also coach gymnastics!

Sewing - Beginner To Advanced
Description: Students will ignite their creativity while learning how to operate a basic sewing machine to include threading, changing the needle, moving the needle, bobbin threading and replacing, sewing straight and zig-zag stitches, beginning and finishing projects, and problem solving basic issues that can arise while sewing.
Each class will be a specific project that sewing students can work on in class and take home to finish (if needed). They will also leave inspired to make more of what they created in class at home!
Requirement: Each student must have a sewing machine, extra sewing machine needles, fabric rated scissors, all purpose thread in a neutral color (white, grey, or tan), seam ripper, fabric tape measure, and quilting clips OR sewing pins to hold fabric pieces together (quilting clips recommended for students very new to sewing). Practice fabric will be included in price of the class.
** NOTE: Bringing your sewing machine is required for this class. We can help you find one! **

Need Helping Purchasing a Sewing Machine?
Jaimi’s given us some Amazon links of examples of the materials needed:
Extra Sewing Machine Needles - link included for “standard needles.” Each machine is different and may need specialized needles but both of my machines use these needles.
NOTE: All of these items can also be purchased locally at Walmart or JoAnn Fabric as well. If anyone is looking to purchase a sewing machine let Jaimi know as she can make recommendations based on your child’s interests in exploring sewing. She encourages us to wait to purchase any additional materials until determining child’s interest.
